Love Never Dies

For my daughter,
Life can be so hard sometimes, it can be a struggle to get out of bed.
Since your dad passed away, I’ve had to remember how grateful I am to have had his love at all. When I miss him and I get that awful churning feeling in the pit of my stomach, I have to remember some people don’t feel love like I had with him in a lifetime. I have to remind myself how blessed I have been.
I love love. It’s the best feeling in the world. Feeling love brings so much joy. That feeling you get when someone you love smiles back at you. It fills your heart and makes you feel so warm inside. The feeling of being home, secure and happy to be alive.
My first true love was my mum. Her smile could light up a room, her energy was infectious. She was beautiful inside and out, a human rights activist and counsellor. She was full of empathy and compassion. When I lost her, as a child, I remember feeling lost. My heart was broken for a very long time. It still is.
When I was a kid, I used to close my eyes and picture her arms around me. I would remember how her love felt and it would make me smile. I still do this when I miss her.
More recently I lost my soulmate, your father. His big blue eyes could see deep into my soul. Sometimes he could just look at me and know exactly what I was thinking. He was my other half and together we were one. His smile made me melt.
Our connection was one that some people don’t get to experience in a lifetime. So, although I miss him every day, I am so grateful to have had this love.
You were born out of absolute soul-wrenching love. I have never been in love like I was with your father. Our love was a soul connection, it was so much more than just a physical connection. Sometimes our love was so strong I felt like I left my body.
His love healed me and made me a better person. Sean’s love made me want to be the best version of me that I can.
When Dad’s cancer got bad, he asked my permission to leave, and I gave it. As much as I wanted to say no, he had to be free from pain, without guilt. This is love.
I want you to remember that, when you are missing Daddy, his energy surrounds you every day. He is always with us. I know it’s not the same, but close your eyes and remember how his love makes you feel. Spray his aftershave and picture his love.
When I look at you my heart bursts with happiness. This is love. All my pain just melts away in that moment.
Love hurts when someone leaves but understand that love is eternal. Love is the only thing that lasts forever.

She lost her thirty-four-year old husband to cancer in October 2019 after a short battle with the disease. Her bond with her daughter has always been strong, but since going through this loss, it holds no bounds. Her daughter literally saved her life.
